Si yo fuera un artista
Si yo fuera un escultor
tomaría mármol Carrera
y tallaría una rosa, o un clavel,
o una margarita, o un narciso,
o una petunia o un tulipán,
para copiarte a ti, a ti, y a ti,
mujer hermosa.
Si yo fuera un pintor
tomaría una tela muy blanca
y pintaría una mariposa monarcas,
o una mariposa pedregosa, o una mariposa lobito,
o una linfa de lineo, o una mariposa morena
para copiarte a ti, a ti, y a ti
mujer bondadosa.
Si yo fuera un músico
tomaría un instrumento
y compondría un tango,
o una milonga, o un corrido mexicano
o un vals, o una melodía de amor,
para copiarte a ti, a ti y a ti,
mujer buena y trabajadora.
Yo soy un poeta
tomo la hoja de papel y una pluma
para escribirte un verso amoroso,
una nota de amor, una pagina de cariño,
un libros de admiración por tu dedicación,
por ser tu mujer, la amiga, la novia, la esposa,
mujer tu eres la madre del universo.

If I Were An Artist
If I were a sculptor
I would marble Carrera
carve a rose or a carnation,
or a daisy or a daffodil,
or a petunia or a tulip
to copy you, you, you, and you,
beautiful woman.
If I were a painter
I would take a very white fabric
and paint a monarch butterfly,
or a rocky butterfly or a butterfly wolf,
or lymph line, or a brown butterfly
to copy you, you, you, and you
kind woman.
If I were a musician
I would take an instrument
and compose a tango
or a milonga, or a Mexican corrido
or waltz, or a melody of love
to copy you, you, you and you,
good, hardworking woman.
I am a poet
I take a piece of paper and a pen
to write a verse of love,
a love note, a page of love,
a book with admiration for your dedication,
to a wife, a friend, a girlfriend, a woman,
woman you are the mother of the universe.
