That Song…

On ocean blues
straining the heart muscles
written was that song
jana gana mana

the thuds of falling corpses
when synchronized
with the tunes of aeolian harp
played by the cruel Lord of Death
written was that song
jana gana mana

when from the other shores of the Sindhu
to the Southern shores of the Kaveri
the waves flowed with rippling sounds
of unfailing harmony
written was that song
jana gana mana

that song makes me ecstatic
those unyielding tones of land
bring me back, palm-fulls
of those moment slided into
the time’s swirling currents
jana gana mana

let me adorn my Nation with that precious crown
let me abulate my people with that nectar
and let me sing aloud that anthem
on the heart of the world
to bring back the lost peace and harmony
jana gana mana…!

  5. TO PERUGU:

Time of man will never go
to display the grace he has
and at times a man might grow
from his grace to even grass…

When a man is brave enough
    to attack challenge in life,
all his way might first be rough,
but his end with honey hive…

    Move ahead with rough and toil;
All your ways will flow like oil…

    ………………………………………..
    Congratulatulations PERUGU!

  6. YIOULA IOANNOY PATSALIDOU says:

Yes!!! it’ is always very interesting to read poetry from other cultures.
That makes the distance between the different cultures smaller and we realise that
all the people have the same feelings.

jana gana mana–this passage should not be ignored, and this poem should not be simplified as purely jingoistic. Here Perugu is referring to the bloodshed that happened the day of 15 August 1947. The “cruel Lord of Death” is of course Shiva, playing on His harp “jana gana mana.” I applaud Perugu for this poem’s multiple complexities, reflecting the complexity of Indian Independence Day and the complexity of India itself. And for his ultimate message of hope, “let me sing aloud / that anthem / on the heart of the world / to bring back the lost peace and harmony”–in Hebrew this is called Tikkun Olam, repairing the world. I hope this is not read by future generations as a purely celebratory poem, but one that shows a complexity of great and evil things and offers a solution.

  24. You really make it seem really easy along with your presentation but I to find this matter to be actually something that I feel I’d by no means understand. It sort of feels too complicated and very vast for me. I am looking ahead for your subsequent post, I will attempt to get the cling of it!
