Lennart writes: “The new project for January 2012 is called “Vision to Voice” which is a collaborative art show between South Delta Secondary School and the South Delta Artists Guild. Everyone is invited to the Grand Opening on Saturday 7th January 2012 between 1pm to 4pm “Vision to Voice” at the Long House Gallery on 1710 56th Street Tsawwassen next to the Recreation Centre. There will be over 50 poems and short stories together with 70 paintings done by the art students and also members of the artists’ guild. Our feature will be from Afghanistan, the World Poetry Youth Team Member Alaha Ahrar with her poem “Instead of Hate, May Love Rain Down” the companion painting will be of a young boy flying a kite with small red hearts falling off to the village.

You should see some of the poems and short stories these students have come up with to match the pictures. The young students are amazing. It has been fun to work with them and the teachers. Such a good project for co-operation and the use of all our new communication devices… Face to face, by phone, by email and jpg with the pictures to the students from the artists. Cellphones and smart phones and cameras. What a project! It involved over 130 persons. The superintendent for our school district said at the opening that ” we were the project for the future.” The Ministry of Education would like to see project to involve schools with outside groups.”

The South Delta Artists Guild hope to have Alaha meet the youth poets when she comes to the World Poetry  Richmond, Canada & International Peace Festival, May25-26, in Richmond, BC, Canada.
