Selene Frances Bertelsen

Blessed to have been born and raised in Vancouver, BC, 32 year old Selene Frances Bertelsen embraces her First Nations and European roots among the many nationalities which stand behind her and make her “culturally rich”. It is this cultural richness combined with a love of Mother Nature and a never ending compassion for “The Human Condition”, especially on the Downtown East Side, that provides incredible inspiration for Selene’s poetic material. Poems constantly pop into her head-always with the title coming first, and often she finds she has more poems to write than she knows what to do with! Selene is also currently pursuing a career change from ESL Instructor to Dog Obedience Trainer.

(Inconsequential Rainbow)

 Inconsequential.

 Nothiing

No meaning.

Everything I do, everything I am

Seems to matter not.

Alone…pondering whether or not

I have achieved enough.

-Or anything at all-.

Wondering if in fact, I am

Where I should be.

Carpe Diem

C’est La Vie

Get use to the “I don’t know”.

Almost a quarter of a century gone

And I still don’t know where I am.

-Or is the glass

With the endlessly drifting sands

A quarter of a century full?

So, I continue on.

And exist the only way

I know how-wondering…

And then a rainbow appears in the sky,

And groups of brilliant white

Flash across-the colours waving at me.

Each little group takes its time.

Some are way ahead of the others,

Flying over the tops

Of the tall city buildings.

Some have just passed

The end of the rainbow,

And the others are caught

Swimming beautifully amongst

The multicoloured bands.

I think to myself  and smile…

And I know that everyone

Is at their own level,

Swimming across the sky,

At their own pace,

Fulfilling their dreams

In their own ways.
