RUTH KOZAK is a Canadian historical fiction writer and travel journalist with a strong interest in history and archaeology. She publishes regularly in print and on-line travel magazines and wrote an e-book guide of Athens for a US publisher. A frequent traveler she has lived several years in Greece and visits there regularly. She is president of the BC Association of Travel Writers and edits and publishes a travel e-zine TRAVEL THRU HISTORY www.travelthruhistory.com Ruth teaches creative writing and instructs writer’s group as well as conducting workshops, one-on-one writing coaching and editing. She has presented at events for the Royal City Literary Arts and other writer’s organizations.

Her first historical fiction novel, “SHADOW OF THE LION” about the fall of Alexander the Great’s dynasty, was extensively researched in Greece and Asia Minor with the support of Classical scholars, the Greek Ministry of Culture, the Society of Macedonian Studies (Thessaloniki), the Finnish Institute in Athens, the Norwegian Institute of Athens and with further research undertaken in the Gennadius Library and the British Library in Athens.

SHADOW OF THE LION: BLOOD ON THE MOON is Volume One of an epic story set in the aftermath of the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC and the bloody Wars of Succession which follows. Complete with all the ingredients of a Greek tragedy, SHADOW OF THE LION: BLOOD ON THE MOON’s remarkable story, driven by blood, lust, fierce loyalty, blind ambition and power, not only happens to be true, but possesses the hallmarks of being hailed as a literary classic of its genre!

Published in UK by Media Aria- CDM Publishers in 2014, the novel will appear in two volumes, Volume 1 “SHADOW OF THE LION: BLOOD ON THE MOON”  now available on Amazon.com and bookstores. Volume 2 subtitled “THE FIELDS OF HADES” will be published in 2016.

In 2014, Ruth joined a travel writer’s delegation to Egypt and was thrilled to visit Alexandria, one of the settings in her novel. In September 2014 she presented her novel at the Athens Centre, and read for two grade nine classes at the Athens Community School. She was also invited to the World Poetry Conference in Larissa. While in Greece, she traveled to Amphipolis, one of the settings of her novel, and was thrilled to glimpse the new tomb find that was publicly revealed right when her book was published. On her return to Vancouver in 2014 she was award an “empowered writer’ award at the World Poetry Peace Poethon at Simon Fraser downtown campus.

Her successful book launch in January 2015 was held at the Hellenic Centre, Vancouver, sponsored by the Greek Consul. She has read and presented workshops at various venues in Vancouver including readings for several writer’s groups and the Vancouver Public Library.

Ruth recently finished a tour of Spain and Greece gathering new travel story material. While in Athens she read at the Canadian Institute of Greece. She has been invited back to read from The Fields of Hades next year. She also presented her novel to the Hellenic Institute of Strategies, attended by professors and other academics.
