Rio Samaya Band

Based in Vancouver, the Rio Samaya Band is made up of Pancho and Sal, partners in life as well as in music, which is full of wonderfully enchanting Latin rhythms and romantic melodies in Spanish.

“In the field of Latin music, Pancho and Sal- their fluid poetry came from the heart and their songs ranged from mild and spicy numbers that would have been ideal to dance in the sunshine outside”(Review in the Peace Arch News)

Over the last 2 years Pancho and Sal have created “The Rio Samaya Band” with theconcept and project to tour Canada and the world like a duo and build up the band, joining with local musicians using the  Rio Samaya Band Signature.  Rio Samaya Band
has already debuted with incredibly talented musicians in their hometown, Vancouver,Montreal, Newfoundland, as far as Beijing and most recently Goa in India.  Their goal is to reach as many communities as possible and share their music and even merge with other world artists to record their original compositions.

“Their style flows through the folkloric traditions of Central and South America. One of my favorite moments on the disc, Campo gives the lead voice to the accordion in a pleasant walk through the countryside. “The peace that I was searching for came close to heart, in the calmness and in the space, the love was reborn.”

Pancho and Sal are fixtures at street festivals around the concrete corridors of Vancouver (check out www.riosamayaband.com for a great collection of video performances), but their music is inseparably tied to the natural pulse of our planet.” Review on CD “Secretos” Cal Koat host of 96.1 FM Radio and creator of World Beat Television.

A poet since his youth in Argentina, Pancho is the lead singer and songwriter.  He
writes in the centuries-old tradition of Spanish America, blending it with elements of folk,
country and reggae, as well as the flamenco he learned from Gypsies in the south of
France.  Sal grew up playing accordion in Vancouver, has roots in Argentina, sings
ethereal harmonies and plays hand percussion instruments.  They have a unique style
of translating simultaneously from Spanish to English. Bombo, chachas, accordion,
quena, flute, guitar and charango are just some of the instruments they play.  Together
they create a gentle but compelling sound.
