Lavana writes:
“Renaissance Books offers a welcoming environment for book lovers as well as artists. The store offers additional shelf space for books, from the trendy to the obscure. You will find used, out-of-print, hard-to-find books and new local authors books. We stock 130,000 titles, so you will be able to track down just about any book. Whether you locate what you want in our store or in our E-bay store, you will find that our selection is unparalleled.

Shelf space has doubled for Science Fiction, Fantasy, Romance, and also Arts & Crafts. The ever in demand Romance section has grown to incorporate space for Paranormal Romance and Romantic Suspense. We have now enough room to set-up sections based on popularity and demand from our customers.

Our new store also offers space for customer amenities.

A coffee bar where we serve Lattes & Cappuccinos with seating sections throughout the store to relax while completing your book selection.

A safe place to sell your books and to hold book launches/signing and above all meet your friends.

We are particularly fired up by our after hours concepts in live music, poetry readings, and arts and crafts workshops.  We have the desire to make Renaissance Books a place where writers, musicians along with artists can get together and connect in a creative environment.

John and Lavana hope to see good old friends plus new shoppers at our new store on 6th Street between Columbia and Carnavon.  After all, it’s something of a renaissance for Renaissance Books.”

Olga
By Sonja Grgar

Her eyes have known
It all;
The silent cry of a
Child who doesn’t belong,

The lonesome lullaby
Of bodies hushed to sleep
Where the soul
Feeds a silent storm
All night long.

Her eyes have known
The will to
Make any seed grow,

To snatch it from the gloomy soil
And the hungry rain,
And have it reach
For itself again.

Her eyes have known
A wisdom others barely touch,
Which seeps from her
Like incensed breath,
Like water that carves
A love letter out of rock.

Ariadne’s Note:

It is  with great pleasure that we announce the award winners for the World Poetry Canada International Peace Festival 2013.

Each entry was nominated by one or more people, and went through a background check. The awards are based on humanitarian and peace efforts to make the world a better place.

Many of the award winners are youth. They show a wonderful commitment for peace and the respect of others. Each award winner has sacrificed to promote peace and understanding and in some instances  have shown great courage in the face of adversity.

For the first time ever, we had 10 film, doc entries. With help from our community parter Cinevolution, we were able to include the film award winners this year. The two films will be shown during the peace festival.
