Doc Pen receiving his FILM AWARD

Doc PenPen, Filmmaker and Poet awarded ‘ Father of Philippine Visual Poetry ‘Doc PenPen receiving a special citation at the 56th FAMAS Award (2008) from Regine Velasquez (leftmost) as New Indie Filmmaker for Takipsilim” which he wrote and directed.

Doc PenPen, writer and director of “Takipsilim,” an award-winning indie docu-film that tackled the sinister side of human existence and the inescapable eventuality of death.

He is also the man behind the successful ”i” INSPIRE THE WORLD FRIENDSHIP POETRY EVENT  in the Philippines on April 10, 2011.
Doc PenPen’s upcoming book will contain a collection of  hundred poems, all delicious morsels of his personal beliefs and convictions. Some of them forage into the human psyche, the realm where he hopes to unravel the inconvenient truths about man’s inhumanity. Other poems philosophize on a range of human emotions based on his perception of truths. His chosen advocacy is no leisurely walk in a park. Keeping chaos at bay, he constantly crosses swords with the demons of ridicule and rebuff. Through all the difficulties, Doc PenPen remains resolute in his commitment, ready to stand up for something but willing to sit down for everything.

Doc PenPen found a solid ally in Manny Calpito, who too believes in the primacy of humanity over and above man-made rules and regulations. Manny Calpito, a veteran and multi-awarded broadcaster in the Philippines and the USA, is the man behind “Operation Tulong”, a radio program that earned him the Catholic Mass Media Award, the 1981 Grand Award for The Most Outstanding Public Service Program given by Pope John Paul II, and a membership at the Radio Hall Of Fame.  Mr. Calpito, an author himself, was challenged by Doc Penpen’s film and poems, thus made ”PENTASI B” a history, generic name for all kinds of visual poetry, finding them mystifying in style but lucid in substance, disorganized in structure but tidy in essence, and seemingly incomprehensible in form but robustly rational in message.

Incidentally, on Aug. 28, 2011, Doc PenPen was awarded “The Father of Philippine Visual Poetry” in a fitting ceremony held at the grand ballroom of Cloud Nine, a classy boutique hotel perched on a hill in Antipolo. The Final Awarding Ceremony will take place in Glendale, California in May through the untiring efforts and supports of Manny Calpito and Marvin U. Mangabat.

The man in the mask has a face at last! The award has further ignited Doc PenPen’s commitment to do “Bukang Liwayway” and to release his book of visual poetry before the year ends. Verily, his rendezvous with destiny and appointment with history can no longer be postponed, much less canceled.

i see no other from yesterday

i am jenny
hopping freely from canopy of canticles
watching seagulls by the seashore
humming like robins
after the storms and thunders
stepping on the broadway
of this apex without borders

i listen to Minerva
dispersing her thoughts
from psalms of our reigning universe
up these stairs and scaffoldings
i asked for the bottomline
of no others, of no outcast
of our own time

uplifted from the quagmire
of unreachable, and impossible
i have tossed the coin
and hold on.
i am beyond the valleys of possibilities
stride my glides
in our lighthouse of unforgotten
ordinary things
we smile
we knit
we fondle
TOGETHER.

Greetings of Peace and Joy Ariadne
Here’s the poem for the worldpoetry.ca

SA DAKO PAROONAko’y nagmamatyag
..sa saliw ng awit
ng batis na kristal,
..sa tatag ng pagkalilok
ng bundok na banal,
…sa himig at samyo
ni Inang KALIKASAN,
…sa bagong sibol
at umiindak na dahong luntian,
…sa musikang dalisay na handog
ni hanging Amihan.

Sa aking pag-iisa,
musmos kong isip
ay naglakbay,
nagawi sa himpapawid ng pangarap,
puso’y nagsusumamo,taimtim nakikiusap
‘sang buntong hininga,
mula roon, naulinig ko ang ‘yong pagtalima

halika..
sandigan mo’y sinag ng haring araw
tulay mo’y hiwaga ng bahaghari
tanod mo’y kislap ng buwan at bituin,
kasiping mo’y mga payapang gabi,
at matatamis na alaala..

Sa dako paroon,
saplot ay gintong Ngayon
sa pinagtagpi-tagping kahapon
sasalubong sa’yo ang pinto ng
pinagkukrus na isa pang panahon..
damhin mo ang PAG-ASA,
May bukas pa..

English version

towards the distance

I oversee
while strumming a song ..
on a crystal stream,
.. the majestic shape of a
holy mountain,
… the melody and fragrance
of Mother Nature,
… the new spring
and the green leaves swaying
…the music
of a cool northwest wind,
murmurring, singing

In my solitude,
my young mind

traveled,
the unlimited sky of dreams,

heart cried, begged earnestly
and sighed…
from there a soft voice,
without a doubt, sweetly complied …

come …
The glorious sunrays be the stand
The mysteries of the rainbow –the bridging land
the guidance of moon and stars,
the solemn nights be the sanctuaries,
of our sweet memories ..

Towards the distance,
our cloak be the golden essence of today
our roof be the bits and pieces of yesterday
I found the open door
here i am at the crossroads once more..
hope is what i ‘m breathing,
there’s tomorrow, worthy waiting.
