Rachelle Chartrand is an award-winning screenwriter, author and past-president of Women in Film & Television Vancouver. She has been involved in the film industry for over fifteen years.

first as an actress, then as a creative producer of numerous short films, including a co-production shot in South Korea, and now as a full-time screenwriter and script consultant.

Rachelle has a few projects at different stages of development, including 9630, a paranormal scif thriller with Brightlight Pictures (The Company You Keep, 50/50, White Noise); and FLOW,which has been optioned by Amber Ripley of Goodbye Productions (Sitting on the Edge of Marlene, Entanglement).

As a writer-for-hire, Rachelle was chosen out of submissions from across France and North
America to do the rewrite of an upcoming major motion picture (a biopic/love story) with Firstep Productions (Les Misérables, Midnight in Paris). Rachelle is also in early development with on an epic period piece about Treaty 11 set in 1920’s Northwest Territories.

Rachelle’s first screenplay, FLOW, won an Award of Excellence in Screenwriting at the 2011Canada International Film Festival, was accepted into the Good To Go Program at the 2012Female Eye Film Festival and was a semi-finalist for the 2014 Praxis/Whistler Film Festival Screenwriters Lab.

Her second screenplay, Making of a Faith Healer, was invited to participate in both the Script Development and Good to Go Programs at the 2013 Female Eye Film Festival where it won Best Reserve Screenplay, and was a quarter-finalist for the 2015 Bahamas International Film Festival Screenwriters Residency Program.

In September 2014, Rachelle released her memoir, CHRYSALIS: A Dark and Delicious Diary of Emergence. Described as Eat, Pray, Love meets Bridget Jones’s Diary if either woman was a bulimic, alcoholic divorced twice by age thirty-nine, CHRYSALIS chronicles Rachelle’s heart wrenching, heart-healing metamorphic year. Chrysalis is now being adapted into a TV Series entitled HEAR ME ROAR!

Rachelle has an eclectic teaching resume as well, having taught and counseled students of all
ages, cultures and socio-economic backgrounds locally and abroad. She has a Bachelor of Secondary Education with a major in Physics and a minor in Mathematics from the University of Alberta, but has also taught screenwriting, creative writing and ESL. In addition to teaching in
the public school system, Rachelle has taught in South Korea and India, as well as an
independent school for young offenders in Burnaby, BC and most recently at a private education centre in Vancouver working primarily one-on-one with FASD, autistic and dyslexic students.

Rachelle Chartrand is an award-winning screenwriter, producer and past-president of Women in Film and Television Vancouver. She has been involved with the film industry for fourteen years, first as an actress, then as story consultant and creative producer and now as a full-time screenwriter. Additionally, Rachelle holds a bachelor’s degree in physics with a minor in mathematics from the University of Alberta. Her eclectic teaching experience includes working with ESL students abroad as well as at-risk youth, young offenders and autistic children at home. Rachelle currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia where she continues to emerge.
